Ethiopian Electric Power is undertaking numerous projects to address the surging energy demand resulting from Ethiopia’s economic growth.
To accommodate the rising demand from high-voltage industrial customers, which is increasing at an average rate of 6 percent per year, it will be necessary to increase the supply from the current 3,271 gigawatt-hours to 5,205 gigawatt-hours.
Likewise, the energy consumption of medium and low voltage industries, projected to grow by an average of 20 percent annually, should be augmented from the current 739 gigawatt-hours to 3,285 gigawatt-hours.
In addition to this, addressing service quality and reliability issues, optimizing the frequency and duration of power outages, and enhancing customer satisfaction have been identified as areas needing attention.
It is believed that revising the tariff to reflect the costs associated with electricity infrastructure construction, operation, and maintenance will contribute to enhancing service quality and increasing accessibility.
