The Ethiopian Electric Power Labor Union announced that it has paid over 2.8 million birr to its retired members over the past eleven months.
According to the chairman of the union, Mr. Mekonen Kifle, over 70 members who retired during the fiscal year have received payments in accordance with the union’s bylaws.
Mr. Mekonen stated that, based on their tenure in the union, members received one to two months’ salary.
He announced that 112,000 birr was paid to one member of the labor union.
He mentioned that retirees expressed their gratitude to the union, as they were honored and thanked when they retired after many years of service to the company.
To further benefit the members of the labor union, he explained that by signing a loan agreement with Dashen Bank and depositing three million birr as collateral, it is enabling members to purchase various household items on credit.
Ato Mekonen mentioned that the union is planning to implement initiatives that will benefit the members of the association in addition to the annual salary increase and other benefits.
During the fiscal year, more than 242 employees of the company became members of the union.
The Ethiopian Electric Power Labor Union, established in 2014, is a longstanding labor union with over 4,000 members.
