Workplace Safety is a top Priority in Southern Ethiopia Electric Grid Expansion Project.…///…The Ethiopian Electric Power (EEP) Southern Grid Expansion Project has announced that workplace safety is a top priority to protect the health and well-being of construction workers at Site Two.
The project contractor, Haisan Heavy Industry Corporation, has established a workplace safety unit at Site Two to prevent potential hazards and ensure worker safety, according to Bahru Bekele, the site’s safety and health control officer.

The Tirga substation and transmission line project is located far from urban areas, necessitating proactive safety measures.
Since construction workers are often exposed to various risks, measures are being implemented to mitigate them.
Workers undergo regular training on hazard identification, safety protocols, workplace procedures, and the proper use of safety equipment.
Additionally, first aid facilities have been established at the worksite to provide immediate medical assistance in case of accidents. If an incident exceeds the site’s capacity, workers are promptly referred to healthcare facilities.
The project has implemented various administrative measures, including job suspension, against workers who fail to adhere to safety guidelines.
Bahru Bekele emphasized that, due to the established safety culture and rigorous monitoring, no accidents have occurred so far.
Workers such as Jakie Ayichomi and Asayehgn Ashagre, who serve as supervisors and assistant foremen, confirmed that they have received safety training and are provided with protective equipment to minimize risks.
They assured that they are working safely by effectively applying their training and utilizing the provided safety tools.
More than 1,000 workers are currently involved in construction activities at Site Two of the Southern Ethiopia Electric Grid Expansion Project.
