EEP Replaces Damaged Power Conductors to Ensure Uninterrupted Electricity Supply

The Ethiopian Electric Power (EEP) Own-Force Construction Department has announced that continuous work is underway to replace damaged conductors on the 230 kV second circuit power transmission lines between legetafo , Kombolcha, and Alamata.

Project Site Manager Yohannes Nega reported that the conductor replacement work is now over 86.8% complete. The line, originally completed before 2013 EC, was damaged during the war in northern Ethiopia, prompting the need for extensive repairs.

The project is being executed in two phases to restore and strengthen the power infrastructure. The first phase, covering a 61 km stretch between legetafo and Kombolcha, has already been completed, ensuring a stable electricity supply to surrounding communities and the National Cement Factory.

The second phase, spanning 114 km from Kombolcha to Alamata, is currently in progress without interrupting power transmission—thereby avoiding potential social and economic disruptions in the region.

Yohannes emphasized that conducting such repairs without power interruptions represents a significant technical achievement for EEP and showcases the institution’s growing operational expertise.

With a budget exceeding 86.3 million Birr, the project is fully funded by Ethiopian Electric Power, underscoring the utility’s commitment to maintaining a reliable electricity supply across the country.

This initiative not only restores critical infrastructure but also builds local capacity, contributing to the long-term sustainability of Ethiopia’s power transmission network.
