EEP Executes Construction of New Substation Under a new Contract Agreement

The Own Force Department of Ethiopian Electric Power (EEP) has announced the commencement of a new substation construction in the Alem Bank area of Addis Ababa, following a contract agreement with the Ethiopian Electric Utility.

According to Mr. Tedla Seifu, Manager of Project Management II, the project owner will assume control of the 33 kV substation upon the completion of its construction.

Ato Tedla mentioned that the project, valued at 31 million 434 thousand 128 birr, is financed by the Ethiopian Electric Utility. The construction work encompasses civil, electro-mechanical, testing, and commissioning activities.

Mr. Tedla also stated that this project presents an opportunity to reduce foreign currency expenses and create a favorable environment for executing mega projects. He highlighted that such projects were previously awarded to foreign contractors over the past several years.

Engineer Yohannes Melkamu, the project manager, mentioned that the construction began in May 2024 and is planned to be completed within six months.

According to Mr. Yohannes, the project is over 41 percent complete, with construction finished on the control room structure, switchgear structure, and transformer placement area.

Mr. Sofonias Kasu, the site engineer for the project, stated that it has provided employment opportunities for 55 local residents.
