Fincha-Shambu 230kV Power Transmission Project

Project Outcome

The project supplies electricity to the Oromia region, part of the East Welega Zone, Jimma, Horo woredas, and villages that distribution lines from the substation can reach. Specifically, the project has managed to decrease the frequent power interruptions—about 300 times per year—and power quality issues facing the connected areas. Furthermore, the project strengthens and provides sustainable power for rural towns in the Oromia Region, East Welega Zone, Jimma Horo woredas around Shambu town up to Bure and Bako, and has laid a strong basis for a continuous rural electrification program and the availability of power supply for irrigation and pump stations, which will be realized in the short-term regional development plan.
