Geda Special Economic Zone Power Transmission Project

The special economic zone is located between Modjo and Adama towns of Oromia Regional state. The objective of the project is to construct an economic zone with a total power demand of around 575 MVA, which will be reached within forty-year planning horizon. The Geda Special economic zone consists of many industrial firms like leather industry, Jewellery, electrical and electronic appliance, agro processing, pharmaceutical and the like.

Based on the demand load and the suitability of the available power system network around the area it is planned to construct one new 230/33 kV Geda Special Economic Zone substation by stretching around 2.6 KM double circuit 230 kV transmission line by making Loop-in-Loop-Out (LILO) configuration of existing Koka -Gelan 230 kV transmission line. This substation is planned to have four 230/33 kV each 50/63 MVA transformers.
