Ethio – Kenya Power Systems Interconnection Project

Considering the huge potential of Ethiopia in generating hydropower, the Ethiopian government is working towards being the energy hub of Eastern Africa and beyond. As part of this endeavor, the Ethio – Kenya power system interconnection project is considered as the first type of the Eastern Africa electricity highway and the main backbone of the power interconnection network to the region.

The project is improving the economy of the two countries, further strengthening the multi-faceted development specifically generating foreign currency for Ethiopia while alleviating Kenya’s current energy deficit. The project has further opened a door for interconnection to Tanzania and the rest of the Southern African Power Pool.
