The company uses social values to prevent tower theft

The transmission and substation division of the North East 2 Region has announced the implementation of community values to combat tower theft in the Afar region, complementing existing law enforcement measures.

According to the director of the department, Mr. Hasan Mohammed, there have been no incidents of theft in the electricity infrastructure managed by the region during the first 10 months of the 2016 fiscal year.

Mr. Hasan, recalling the theft of two high-power transmission poles in the 2015 fiscal year, mentioned that action was taken against the perpetrators by monitoring the information system called Dagu.

The director mentioned that the security office of the region, in collaboration with the regional administration, has jointly informed each district and local tribal leaders about the importance of infrastructure protection.

He emphasized that electricity holds significant importance for the community, particularly in a hot area like theirs, leading to heightened attention and care towards the infrastructure.

Furthermore, it is asserted that since theft contradicts the societal values, individuals engaged in theft and related activities within the region will be monitored by the Dagu information reception system, a value intrinsic to the Afar people, and legal action will be taken against them.

Northeast Region 2 oversees the management of three substations and 450 kilometers of transmission lines.
