Transmission Line Restored and Ready for Service After Two-Year Interruption

The North West Region has announced that the 132 kV Beles–Jawi power transmission line has been rehabilitated and is now ready to resume service after being out of operation for two years.

According to the region’s transmission lines maintenance manager, Ato Belayneh Lijalem, the line had been non-operational since a transformer failure occurred at the Beles 400/132/33 kV substation two years ago.

He explained that during the prolonged outage, the transmission line was exposed to extensive theft and vandalism, particularly in and around Jawi town in the Awi Zone of the Amhara Region.

As a result, seven steel transmission towers and approximately 18 kilometers of conductor cables were stolen.

Ato Belayneh stated that the stolen infrastructure has now been fully replaced, restoring the line and ensuring readiness to provide reliable electricity supply to the area.

He further noted that maintenance teams are currently working intensively to reinstate electricity services to Jawi town and surrounding areas, which had previously been supplied through the Beles substation.

The resumption of service will take place once the ongoing transformer replacement at the Beles substation and battery-related maintenance works at the Jawi 132 kV substation are completed.

Ato Belayneh also expressed his appreciation to all professionals involved in the rehabilitation works for their dedication and commitment.
