The World Bank has granted Ethiopian Electric Power to provide engineering consultancy services for projects funded by the bank, according to the engineering division of the organization.
Yared Fikadu, Director of the Transmission Lines System Design Department in the sector, disclosed that after several discussions with the World Bank, an agreement was reached EEP to independently handle the consultancy services.
The director added that surveys, preliminary design, technical specification preparation, needs assessment, contract management and supervision has been carried out independently by Ethiopian Electric Power.
He mentioned that there has been a change in the engineering sector by formulating a capacity building program to provide various trainings to experts, eliminating the gaps in the preparation of technical specifications and making it standard.
He explained that the efficiency and consistency of contract administration and site construction control operations had significantly improved currently.
He stated that engineering consultancy is granted by assesing projects funded by the World Bank, like the Warabe-Butajra transmission and substation construction project, as well as the Protection Refreshment Project and self-funded projects performance.
Ato Yared clarified that the comprehensive consultancy services provided by EEP will support the realization of its three-year strategic plan and result in foreign currency savings.
