The Southern Electric Grid Expansion Project is currently facilitating knowledge and technology transfer, according to the project’s Site II Manager, Mr. Argaw Tadi.
He stated that 80 foreign nationals are involved in the construction of substations and transmission lines at Site II.
Mr. Argaw emphasized that Ethiopian workers are being paired with foreign experts to ensure the transfer of knowledge and technology during the construction process. This initiative aims to build local capacity, enabling Ethiopia to independently manage future projects and enhance work culture.
Mr. Abraham Desalegn, a civil engineer at Bioxton Engineering Consultants, highlighted that the involvement of foreign experts in the project will help develop skilled local workers.
Similarly, Mr. Mekonnen Tilahun, a civil engineer overseeing the construction of the Shigadin substation, noted that collaboration with foreign professionals plays a crucial role in enhancing skills, adopting technology, and sharing experience.
As Mr. Asayehgn Ashagre, a former truck driver, stated, he had no prior construction experience but has shared his transformation since joining the project. Within a year and six months, he has acquired various technical skills, attributing his growth to working alongside foreign experts.
As previously reported, over 1,000 workers are engaged in the construction of the Shigadin and Tirga power substations, as well as the transmission line extending from Saul to Tirga at Site II.
This project not only strengthens Ethiopia’s electrical infrastructure but also empowers its workforce through valuable knowledge and technology transfer.
