The 48th national and 113th worldwide observance of International Women’s Day was celebrated by Ethiopian Electric Power in the theme “Let’s Empower Women and Ensure Peace and Development.”
H.E. Engineer Ashebar Balcha, the Chief Executive Officer of EEP, remarked on this occasion that the company is trying to get rid of any impediments that hinder women from engaging in order to create a more inclusive and vibrant work environment.
He emphasized that creating opportunities for women to strengthen and develop their skills and the institution should use women’s potential for the effective achievement of EEP’s plans.
In his words, “we need to continue our efforts to improve and develop women’s potential in the workplace as we celebrate Women’s Day at the institutional level.”
In a discussion paper delivered on the occasion, Ms. Lense Edea, Director of the Department of Women, Children, and Youth, stated that EEP has to work together to ensure that women are valued and given equal opportunity.
The paper pointed out that efforts are being made to create a conducive atmosphere in which women can use their potential by enhancing awareness and enabling them to have decision-making roles.
The institution’s efforts to assist women were the subject of a panel discussion that focused on ways to increase women’s overall engagement and well-being.
The discussion additionally highlighted that the collective agreement should favor women in employment, training, education and promotion.
According to the strategic plan of the institute, activities are being planned and carried out to ensure the participation and benefit of women.
The participants of the event also appreciated the newly established daycare service for children that gave relief to the staff.
They also pointed out that in the future, EEP must work to foster women’s participation in leadership roles.
