
The operation and maintenance department of the region’s transmission lines and distribution stations announced that the East One Region of Ethiopia Electric Power is providing reliable electricity to various sectors that contribute greatly to the country’s economy.
According to the director of the department, Wordi Muhammad, there are four 230 and five 132 KV power distribution stations and 3 thousand 400 kilometers of high power transmission lines in the region.
He stated that the region is providing reliable electricity to the Dredawa Free Trade Zone and other high-tech industries, including power to Djibouti.
Ato Wordi said that due to the expansion of industries in the areas served by the region, the demand for energy is increasing, and capacity building and improvement works are being carried out at the power distribution stations.
The director also mentioned that activities to prevent power outages and modernize operation and maintenance activities are being carried out alongside the capacity building work.
Mr. Wordi mentioned that the conversion of gas-operated GIS control (Gas Insulated System) is being done at Harar No. 3 power distribution station to make the operation work supported by modern technology.
Mr. Kedir Abdella, manager of the operation and maintenance office of the region’s power distribution stations, mentioned that various maintenance works are being carried out on his own.
The manager pointed out that the region is benefiting from modification works on the items needed for maintenance, which will help save the facility from additional costs.
Ato Kedir also stated that the region’s maintenance experts are being made to have skills in various fields beyond the technological and knowledge transitions they find at power distribution stations.
The manager also pointed out that regular inspection and maintenance work will be carried out on all power distribution stations and transmission lines in the region.
According to Ato Kedir, in addition to the ones that are currently providing services, activities have started to build high power transmission lines and distribution stations that will strengthen the eastern grid.
Ato Kedir also announced that the region is carrying out various repairs in coordination with the Ethiopian Electricity Service offices in the area.
