Reliable electricity is playing a key role in accelerating the holistic development of urban centers, according to officials from Adama and Mojo cities.
Mr. Negatu Motuma, Deputy Mayor of Adama, highlighted that Ethiopian Electric Power (EEP) has established wind and hydropower plants as well as substations with varying voltage capacities around the city. These infrastructure projects have significantly improved access to electricity, transforming Adama into a prominent industrial and conference destination.

He emphasized that the city’s dependable power supply has attracted major investments, including high-value manufacturing plants, and has created thousands of job opportunities for residents.
Mr. Negatu also noted that the Koka Hydropower Dam, in addition to supporting power generation, supplies clean drinking water to Adama’s population. He stressed that these developments have contributed to improved living standards and a modern urban lifestyle.
To ensure sustainable progress, the deputy mayor stated that his administration is working closely with EEP to enhance monitoring and prevent infrastructure theft, which threatens long-term energy security.
Meanwhile, Mojo Mayor Mr. Gazali Hashu stated that the city’s emergence as a logistics and industrial hub has been greatly supported by reliable electricity access. This dependable energy supply has helped attract over 300 investors, leading to the creation of more than 30,000 jobs.
He added that numerous high-value investment proposals are currently under review, and a new 230-kilovolt substation is under construction to ensure a stable power supply for the Legedadi Special Economic Zone.
Mayor Gazali called for continued collaboration to sustain the city’s power reliability, which he described as vital for sustaining rapid economic development. Residents, business owners, and city leaders have expressed appreciation to the power utility for addressing growing energy demands.
