Benishangul Gumuz region stated that it will provide the necessary support for the energy infrastructures carried out by the Ethiopian Electric Power (EEP).
Officials of the EEP held a discussion with the leaders of Benishangul Gumuz region regarding the land ownership change of Asosa substation.
Mr. Gashaw Endrias, the director of the regional coordination department of the Transmission and Substation operation, and Mr. Kelil Shifa, the director of the property management department of EEP explained about the complaints raised by the company in connection with the site change, ownership of the substation and the power supply to the substation.
They pointed out that land ownership changes may impact substation expansion and power supply.
Asosa Mayor Abdulkarim Abdurahim attributes the changes are part of ongoing corridor development and reassured that a site for the substation would be replaced.
Infrastructure Sector Advisor to Mayor, Abera Bayata confirmed that regional government will provide full support for construction of transmission line from the GERD to Asosa and the substation expansion.
During discussion with EEP officials, the Deputy Governor of the region Mr. Getahun Abdisa stressed the complaints being raised in connection with the change in site of the substation are caused by a lack of communication and misinformation.
Moreover, Mr. Getahun stated that electricity infrastructure is crucial for the comprehensive development of the region and their office is ready to work in cooperation with the institution.
He also called for the establishment of an Ethiopian Electric Power office in Asosa to enhance collaboration.
