Harari Regional Office of Ethiopian Electricity Service has announced that the capacity increase and improvement work done at Harar No. 3 132 KV power distribution station has made it possible to accommodate more customers.
According to Farid Abdulsalam, Executive Director of the Service, Harari Region, before the capacity increase and improvement works were carried out at the distribution station, it had reached a point where it was impossible to properly handle the energy needs of existing customers.
He mentioned that the capacity building and improvement work done a year ago has made it possible to solve the problems of power cuts that have been arising in the region.
They said that the work of increasing and improving the capacity not only solves the problems of power cuts but also creates an opportunity to accommodate new customers.
Ato Farid, who recalled that the number of electricity users in the region did not exceed 25 thousand in the last five years, said that the number of customers has now increased to 52 thousand due to the capacity building work done at the station.
He announced that the capacity building and improvement works carried out at the power distribution station have helped to expand access to power in the region.
He pointed out that as Harar is a tourism city, reliable power is currently being provided to service institutions, factories and other customers.
He pointed out that the farmers in the city and its surroundings have started using electricity to carry out irrigation works and are making their own contribution by increasing productivity.
According to Mr. Farid, the distribution station has provided reliable electricity to the water line coming from Dredawa to Harar city and has made it possible to solve the problem of water supply in the city.
The Executive Director stated that the capacity building and improvement work is increasing the satisfaction of the energy users and stated that the satisfaction level reached 72 percent in a survey conducted in the 2015 fiscal year.
