The Ethiopian Electric Power (EEP) has announced that its leadership and employees deserve recognition for successfully executing critical projects under challenging circumstances while upholding the company’s reputation.
During a review of the 2017 fiscal year performance, CEO Engineer Ashebir Balcha highlighted Ethiopia’s growing contribution to Africa’s power sector.
He noted the company’s increasing self-reliance in project execution and its ability to deliver transformative mega-projects for future generations.
The CEO credited the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam’s (GERD) achievements to the relentless efforts of EEP’s leadership, employees, and government support.
He also acknowledged the Ethiopian National Defense Force and Federal Police for their collaboration in transporting essential equipment under difficult conditions, emphasizing that security personnel and staff should be honored for their dedication to future-oriented projects.
Despite challenges in the 2017 fiscal year, Engineer Ashebir reported significant progress due to government oversight and board leadership. He stressed the need for cost-saving operational reforms to address project execution inefficiencies.
Employees working on power generation projects in Beles, Fincha, Hidase, and Aysha were praised for overcoming numerous obstacles, with the CEO insisting they deserve commendation. He also urged safeguarding company resources responsibly amid rising maintenance costs for power infrastructure.
Moving forward, EEP plans to enhance employee capacity and job satisfaction under its new organizational structure. The CEO revealed that the three-year Grid Strategy will conclude next fiscal year and called on all staff to contribute ideas for the upcoming strategic plan.
