The Ethiopian Electric Power announced that Ethiopia will continue to strengthen the energy interconnection in the region.
Engineer Asheber Balcha, CEO of EEP, told ENA that Ethiopia is actively seeking to expand electricity export to neighboring countries.
He stated that Ethiopia intends to supply energy up to South Africa in the future and that it presently exports to Sudan, Djibouti and Kenya.
He added that a deal has been reached to supply power to Tanzania.
The CEO noted that theft of power infrastructure is becoming more common in Ethiopia and underlined the need for community and governmental participation in order to address this problem.
He pointed out that the theft of infrastructure will lead to significant disruptions of supply and resulting substantial harm to the nation.
