Ethiopia and Turkey Agree to Collaborate on Energy Sector Development

Ethiopia and Turkey have officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate on electric power generation, renewable energy investment, and hydropower infrastructure. The agreement was signed by Ethiopia’s Minister of Water and Energy, Habtamu Itefa, and Turkey’s Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, Alparslan Bayraktar.

Under the terms of the agreement, the two nations will develop joint projects focusing on renewable energy and energy conservation. This partnership also extends to technical cooperation, specifically regarding the manufacturing and installation of hydropower equipment and turbines. Furthermore, the agreement paves the way for Turkey to actively develop and invest in various energy projects within Ethiopia.

Both countries had reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening knowledge sharing and implementing tangible collaborative projects across these sectors. This diplomatic milestone followed the arrival of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Addis Ababa for an official working visit.
