Efforts are underway to boost the plant’s capacity

The Tekeze Hydropower Plant’s maintenance office stated that efforts are underway to boost the plant’s generating capacity.
The department’s acting manager, Tsegay Atsbha, states that the power plant can currently generate 120 megawatts in two units.
He notes that a variety of initiatives have begun to address issues pertaining operation, maintenance and supply of spare parts of the power plant.
The power plant has started utilizing SAP’s maintenance and operation module, the acting manager underlined.
In collaboration with the Chinese Dong Fang Electric Company, the efforts to rehabilitate the generating units’ operational capacity are underway.
He pointed out that even if the plant undertakes pre- and post-maintenance work, the generating units are constantly in need of maintenance, which puts a lot of strain on the maintenance staff.
He said that although units one, two and four of the power plant have been restored and put back into service during the past eight months, only two of the units are currently operational.
Mr. Tsegay stated that it is anticipated that the power plant’s rehabilitation work is expected to start shortly.
The Tekeze Hydropower plant is a double-arc-shaped power plant with four units that has a capacity to produce 300 MW of electricity.
