EEP Honors Employees for Outstanding Innovation and Efficiency

Ethiopian Electric Power (EEP) has recognized and awarded employees for their outstanding innovations, technical solutions and process improvements that have contributed to operational efficiency, reliable power supply and significant cost savings for the institution.

The employees were honored today as part of EEP’s Institutional Day celebrations for developing and implementing practical solutions that addressed technical and operational challenges while reducing the need for costly external services, equipment, and repairs.

The innovations and technical interventions undertaken by the recognized employees generated more than ETB 374 million in cost savings for the institution.

In recognition of their contributions, the employees received certificates of appreciation and monetary awards ranging from ETB 50,000 to ETB 100,000.

Key Honorees and Their Contributions
Fikreyohannes Tadesse — Implemented an innovative nozzle repair solution, achieving ETB 2 million in cost savings.
Fantahun Eskeziaw — Carried out modifications to the generator’s upper and lower guide bearings, preventing an estimated ETB 2 million in additional costs.
Yishak Woldeyes — Developed an Equipment Log System, resulting in ETB 1.5 million in cost savings.
Gebremedhin Hagos — Implemented modifications to the generator’s upper and lower guide bearings, achieving ETB 10.9 million in cost savings.
Getachew Alene — Carried out similar modification work on the generator’s upper and lower guide bearings, saving ETB 9.3 million.
Biniyam Tsegaye and Temesgen Teklebrhan — Developed the “South Cloud” software, generating ETB 8.36 million in cost savings.
Ms. Ti’aymen Tlesem, Mr. Eyayu Desse, and Dessalegn Tegegne — Developed the “EEP Master” software, resulting in ETB 48.15 million in savings.
Daniel Adane — Conducted power transformer maintenance work that achieved ETB 128 million in cost savings for the institution.
Robel Chernet — Developed an e-Service system as part of EEP’s ongoing digital transformation efforts, achieving ETB 163.7 million in cost savings.

The recognition highlights EEP’s growing emphasis on innovation, technical self-reliance, digital transformation, and operational efficiency. By encouraging employees to develop practical solutions to technical and institutional challenges, the organization is strengthening its capacity to reduce costs while improving the reliability and sustainability of the power system.

The achievements of the honored employees also demonstrate how homegrown innovation and technical expertise can translate into substantial institutional value.

EEP said recognizing such contributions is intended to encourage a culture in which employees are empowered to identify problems, develop solutions, and continuously improve the institution’s operations.
