Ethiopian Electric Power (EEP) has designated September 9 as its annual “Company Day,” EEP Chief Executive Officer Eng. Ashebir Balcha announced during the Company day celebrations held today.
Eng. Ashebir said the date was selected because September 9/ Pagumen 4 marks the inauguration of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD), a landmark national project and a symbol of Ethiopia’s collective determination and achievement.
According to the CEO, the occasion provides an important opportunity for EEP to celebrate its institutional identity, reflect on its achievements, recognize the contributions of its employees, and renew its commitment to future goals.
Eng. Ashebir emphasized that the success of leading global companies is built not only on financial resources and physical assets, but also on the dedication, expertise, and commitment of their employees. He expressed his appreciation to EEP’s workforce for its contribution to the organization’s achievements and transformation.
The CEO described the 2025/26 Fiscal Year as a transformative period for EEP, highlighting the full operationalization of the GERD and the company’s improved financial performance, including a net profit of approximately ETB 39 billion.
He also noted that EEP’s total installed generation capacity reached 9,730 MW during the fiscal year, marking a significant expansion in the country’s power generation capability.
Recognizing the contribution of employees working on the front lines, Eng. Ashebir said engineers, technicians, operators, and project teams have continued to work around the clock, often under challenging conditions and in remote locations, to maintain and expand the country’s power infrastructure.
He stressed the importance of recognizing such dedication as a means of strengthening employee motivation and organizational performance.
The CEO further urged EEP’s operations and project teams to sustain the momentum achieved so far and accelerate the implementation of upcoming infrastructure projects while maintaining high standards of quality, safety, and efficiency.
Eng. Ashebir also reaffirmed EEP’s commitment to strengthening organizational unity and advancing Ethiopia’s role in regional clean-energy integration and electricity trade across East Africa.
Speaking at the event, Mr. Hailu Wolde, Head of the EEP Workers’ Union Office, acknowledged the critical role of employees in achieving the organization’s recent milestones. He called for continued attention to occupational safety, improved working conditions, and employee welfare and benefits.
Mr. Demere Assefa, Executive Vice President of Corporate Finance and Resource Management, described the 2025/26 Fiscal Year as an exceptional period for EEP. He urged employees to maintain the spirit of unity, commitment, and performance demonstrated during the year in order to achieve the objectives set for the 2026/27 Fiscal Year.
The inaugural Company Day celebration concluded with the presentation of certificates of recognition, cash awards, and vehicles to employees and high-performing business units in recognition of their outstanding contributions, operational innovations, and achievements.
The designation of September 9 as EEP’s annual Company Day is expected to provide a recurring platform to celebrate institutional achievements, recognize employees, strengthen organizational identity, and renew EEP’s commitment to powering Ethiopia’s development.
