โ€œThe successful completion of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) challenges the long-standing norm of initiating large-scale projects without ever bringing them to completion.โ€ said Zadig Abraha, President of the African Management Academy.

Speaking at a training session for senior leaders of the GERD public participation Council, Mr. Zadig described the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam as a symbol of national transformation โ€” where competition gave way to cooperation, and where Ethiopia boldly asserted both its identity and interests.

He emphasized that the true foundation of the GERD was not the stone laid in 2011, but the hope and commitment of millions who bought bonds and made donations โ€” not for symbolism, but for the electricity and light that have now become a reality.

โ€œThis dam is the modern-day Adwa,โ€ he said โ€” built by a nation that once lived in darkness, yet moved forward with vision. Now, Ethiopia is poised to generate 5,150 MW and emerge as a renewable energy powerhouse in Africa.

โ€œMore than just a dam, the GERD is a bold statement that Africa can harness its own resources, talent, and determination to drive real, homegrown development.โ€
