The southern national grid extension project is located in Southern Nation, Nationalities and Peoples’ Region (SNNPR) and South-West Ethiopia Peoples’ Region (SWEPR). It includes; Shigdan new substation, Tirga new substation, which is located in the Omo Kuraz sugar factories area; the Arbaminch-I existing substation extension and Arbaminch-II new substation; and the Wolaita Sodo-II existing substation extension. The transmission lines passing through these areas are going to create substation interconnection. This project aims to address the region’s growing demand for electricity, driven by the establishment of the Omo Kuraz Sugar Factories and the Integrated agro Industrial Park (IAIP) in Arbaminch.
