Over 31 Million Birr Saved Through In-House Vehicle Maintenance

The Vehicle Maintenance Management Office of Ethiopian Electric Power (EEP) has announced that more than 31 million birr has been saved by carrying out vehicle maintenance services in-house during the first eight months of the 2018 Ethiopian fiscal year.

According to the acting manager of the Office, Biruk Endale, the institution’s garage provided light-, medium-, and heavy-duty maintenance services to 1,227 vehicles during the stated period.

Biruk explained that conducting maintenance work internally has significantly reduced vehicle downtime, improved the recording and tracking of maintenance history, and enhanced overall vehicle readiness and operational efficiency. He added that a total of 31.58 million birr was saved as a result of these efforts.

He further noted that the office has been working diligently to ensure that maintenance activities are completed on time by properly recording service start and completion times, strengthening monitoring systems, and improving the supply of spare parts.

To ensure the quality and reliability of maintenance work, the office has been conducting equipment and component inspections, verifying that replaced spare parts are properly installed, and carrying out safety checks before returning vehicles to service.

Biruk also indicated that, in cases where spare parts are not readily available in the garage, the office collaborates with relevant departments to facilitate urgent procurement, enabling maintenance work to be completed without delay.

In addition, he emphasized that regular monitoring and control mechanisms are in place to prevent inefficiencies and waste in the procurement and inventory management of spare parts.
