North East 2 Region Ensures Stable Power Supply to Afar Region

The establishment of the North East 2 Region has significantly improved power reliability in the Afar Region, according to Ethiopian Electric Power (EEP).

The Operation Directorate of the North East 2 Region, which was established to provide localized service to Afar, announced that the substations and transmission lines have successfully stabilized the region’s power supply.

Director Mr. Hassan Mohammed explained that the power distribution substations in Semera, Afdera, and Dicheto were previously managed by the North East 1 Region based in Dessie. This arrangement hindered timely responses to power interruptions.

The creation of the North East 2 Region in Semera was specifically aimed at ensuring rapid response to power outages, reducing restoration time, and supporting the smooth operation of production and service institutions in the region.

Mr. Hassan noted that since becoming operational one year and eight months ago, the North East 2 Region has improved power accessibility to approximately 80% of the area, ensuring a more stable and reliable power supply.
