The administration is taking steps to protect the electricity infrastructure from theft.

The Worabe city administration is taking measures to safeguard the electricity infrastructure against theft.

Mr. Akmel Jemal, Head of the city’s justice office, explained that under Energy Proclamation 810/2013 and Regulation 464/2005, which are designed to protect electricity infrastructure, city administrations are responsible for preventing theft of such infrastructure.

He noted that, in accordance with this, security agencies are collaborating to prevent thefts at the Worabe substation and the high-voltage transmission towers.

In addition to efforts to prevent infrastructure theft, he noted that the decree also mandates appropriate actions against offenders when theft occurs.

They noted that, in certain cases, suspects are charged and brought to trial within 15 days.

Assistant Inspector Rahmeto Mustafa, the tactical investigation coordinator for the city administration police office, emphasized that the police are collaborating with the community to prevent theft both during and after the substation’s construction.

He indicated that they will take action by monitoring offenders when theft occurs, in accordance with the local community’s system known as Awuchachigne.

He stated that two individuals involved in stealing tower steel were arrested, sentenced to five to six years in prison, and the stolen steel was returned to the station.

Inspector Rahmeto noted that a suspect has been arrested and is currently under investigation for stealing cable from the substation.
He stated that they are addressing the issue through responsible community policing. He emphasized the severe impact that theft of electricity infrastructure has on society and explained that efforts are focused on bringing offenders to justice, with priority given to such cases.

He also mentioned that the problem is decreasing as the community’s focus on protecting electricity infrastructure has increased, thanks to the awareness efforts initiated by the administration.
