The substation construction is anticipated to be completed by July

The site manager of the Geda Special Economic Zone project stated that the construction of the 230 kV substation, undertaken by Ethiopian Electric Power’s own force department, is expected to be completed by July.

Mr. Tewodros Gashaw, the project’s site manager, stated that the substation is being built to include 14 outgoing lines operating at 33 kV and four transformers, each with a capacity of 63 megavolt-amperes, along with the 230 kV transmission line from Koka to Gelan.

He stated that more than 290 foundation excavations and concrete pourings have been completed, along with the construction of four transformer foundations to facilitate the installation of the substation’s electromechanical equipment.

The manager explained that, with the civil works now complete, the remaining installation tasks will proceed as scheduled, provided that the electromechanical equipment arrives on-site as planned.

He also noted that the construction of the operators’ residences has been completed, with the final finishing work currently underway.

Mr. Tewodros emphasized that the project’s overall progress has reached 48.5%.

He outlined a compensation plan for the remaining tasks, which include road construction, the development of the control room and drainage systems, and the installation of electromechanical equipment. He stated that the project is scheduled for completion by July 2017 E.C.

He noted that, in the first phase, the project will deliver 252 megavolt-amperes of power out of the total 575 megavolt-amperes required by the Geda Special Economic Zone Authority in various phases.

The Geda Special Economic Zone Authority is funding the construction of the substation along with a 2.6 km transmission line.

The project has created both temporary and permanent job opportunities for 181 citizens.
