The maintenance division of Ethiopian Electric Power’s transmission and substations in the South 2 Region has taken multiple steps to ensure that the Ethio-Kenya 500 KV transmission line contributes effectively to regional power integration.

Mr. Mulubirhan Hadush, responsible for overseeing maintenance of transmission lines and fiber optics, highlighted the department’s diligent monitoring of the Ethio-Kenya line to efficiently maintain its regional power interconnection objectives.

Apart from regular maintenance and inspections, emergency assessments have been conducted to preempt disruptions in power transmission due to both man-made and natural events.

A specialized team has been formed specifically for inspecting and maintaining the line, ensuring focused attention on its upkeep.

Mr. Mulubirhan underscored various preventive steps taken during inspections to identify towers vulnerable to flooding and theft, along with maintenance efforts targeted at areas with reported theft incidents.

Moreover, he stressed that these inspection endeavors are crucial for promptly addressing issues before they escalate and cause interruptions in the line’s operation.

With its 1,066 km span, the Ethio-Kenya high power transmission line plays a pivotal role in facilitating regional power interconnection.
