The Institution Generated Nearly 27 Billion Birr in Revenue during the Quarter

The Ethiopian Electric Power (EEP) stated that it generated over 26.8 billion Birr in revenue from electricity sales and associated services provided to domestic and foreign countries over the past three months.
Engineer Andualem Sia, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the institution’s Transmission Business Sector, said that the actual revenue of 26.8 billion Birr exceeded the planned quarterly revenue of 24.9 billion Birr from power sales.
He further detailed that the revenue was achieved by selling 7.88 Terawatt-hours (TWh) of power during the quarter, generating 10.1 billion Birr in local currency and 117.1 million US Dollars in foreign currency. He noted that the current revenue shows a 96% increase compared to the same period in the previous budget year.
According to the Deputy CEO, the volume of power sold during the quarter shows a 47% monthly growth compared to the same period in the previous budget year. He indicated that out of the total power supplied for sale in the first quarter, 93% was for domestic consumption, and 7% was supplied to foreign countries.
Regarding domestic power sales, the Ethiopian Electric Utility accounted for 53.6%, large industries for 4.6%, and technology companies for 34.6% of the share.
Similarly, in terms of electricity sales to neighboring countries, Kenya and Tanzania accounted for 4.6%, and Djibouti for 2.2% of the share.
