The inauguration ceremony for the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam was officially held.

The ceremony was attended by high-ranking federal government officials, both current and former, including the Prime Minister of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, Dr. Abiy Ahmed, and Deputy Prime Minister Temesgen Tiruneh, as well as other invited guests.

In addition, the inauguration was attended by heads of state and representatives from various countries, including African Union Chairperson Mohamed Ali Yussuf, Kenyan President William Ruto, Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley of Barbados, and Djibouti President Ismail Omar Guelleh, as well as officials from various regional, continental, and international institutions.

The guests of honor toured different sections of the dam and its powerhouses and officially launched the turbines. They also inaugurated a monument built at the project site.

The Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam, which has been under construction for the past 14 years, has a power generation capacity of 5,150 megawatts from its 13 turbines.
