The Ethio-Electric Sports Club has honored its head coach with a one-million-Birr prize for his role in the men’s football team’s reinstatement into the Betking Ethiopian Premier League.
The club received recognition and was presented with an award for its successful re-entry into the Betking Ethiopian Premier League.
In his welcoming speech, Ethio-Electric Sports Club Chairman Alemayehu Mengiste emphasized the club’s prestigious history of developing prominent athletes since 1953.
These athletes have proudly represented Ethiopia in national and international competitions, bringing honor to their nation.
Mr. Alemayehu stated that the club rejoined the Premier League in the 2022/23 season after a four-year absence but, unfortunately, was relegated back to a higher league in the same year.
Mr. Alemayehu expressed his satisfaction with the club’s return to the Premier League in 2024, with five games remaining.
Ato Sheferaw Telila, CEO of Ethiopian Electric Utility and Chairman of the Ethio-Electric Sports Club General Assembly, expressed his joy at the club’s reinstatement into the Betking Ethiopian Premier League.
The efforts of Ethiopian Electric Power and Ethiopian Electric Utility in the energy sector are being mirrored in the sports arena, he added.
Engineer Ashebir Balcha, CEO of Ethiopian Electric Power and Deputy Chairman of the Ethio-Electric Sports Club General Assembly, is confident that the club can contend for the Betking Ethiopian Premier League championship in the 2024/25 season.
The management and staff of both companies, along with members of the sports association and the broader sporting community, expressed their gratitude for the contributions made to the club’s success.
During the event, cash prizes ranging from 20,000 to 355,000 ETB were distributed to players, assistant coaches, team leaders, and support staff in acknowledgment of their roles in the team’s triumphant return to the Premier League with five games remaining in the season.
Awards were also presented to the chief executive officers of the two companies in appreciation of their efforts in monitoring and supporting the sports club.
The recognition and award ceremony, which was attended by the CEOs of the two companies, members of senior management, and invited guests, marked a significant occasion.
