Promoting Gender Equality Strengthens Ethiopia’s Development and Prosperity, Says Ato Mulat Gezahagn

Observing International Women’s Day, Ethiopian Electric Power (EEP) emphasized that promoting gender equality significantly contributes to consolidating the country’s development and prosperity.

The celebration of International Women’s Day (March 8) this year was held under the theme: “50 Years of Women’s Voice for Equality and a Prosperous Ethiopia!”

Ato Mulat Gezahagn, Head of the EEP CEO Office, stated in his message that celebrating the day honors the resilience and achievements of women in Ethiopia and around the world who have courageously advocated for their rights.

He stressed that Ethiopia’s development journey cannot be fully realized without the active participation of women and that society must provide appropriate support and cooperation to uphold women’s rights.

He added that the day is not only a celebration but also an opportunity to renew commitment to advancing gender equality and women’s empowerment across the country.

Ato Mulat also highlighted that promoting gender equality helps prevent actions based on gender bias and strengthens shared responsibility in all sectors of society.

Lenese Edae, Director of Women and Social Affairs at EEP, noted that recognizing women’s rights and benefits while addressing unaddressed challenges creates a conducive environment for societal transformation.

She emphasized that providing women with a supportive workplace, educational opportunities, and leadership positions allows them to fully demonstrate their capacity and potential.

The EEP leadership further called on women to actively take advantage of available opportunities to develop their skills and assume leadership roles.

Reflecting on past trends, the Director acknowledged that women’s participation in the institution had been limited.

She commended the management’s proactive measures to provide targeted support, enabling greater integration of women into the organization, and expressed gratitude for the rapid response of the institution’s leadership in facilitating this process.
