Power supply institutions have suffered losses due to delays in tariff revisions.

The proposal for tariff revision, prepared by Ethiopian Electric Power and Ethiopian Electric Utility, was discussed with stakeholders at the Adwa Museum meeting hall.

According to Mr. Belayneh Gezaw, representing the Director General of the Petroleum and Energy Authority in his opening speech at the meeting, the current electricity tariff has remained unchanged for twelve years, resulting in losses for power supply institutions.

He stated that the electricity tariff will be revised to address the growing energy demand in the country and to improve electricity access by offering better services.

He emphasized the need for tariff reform to ensure a reliable electricity supply, expand infrastructure, facilitate maintenance, diversify energy sources, and boost the energy export sector.

According to Mr. Belayneh, the consultation forum aims to gather opinions from stakeholders and clarify the proposed tariff reform study.

The Council of Ministers is expected to receive the proposed tariff reform in the coming weeks.
