Ethiopian Electric Power (EEP) is taking a major step toward resolving grid congestion and enhancing power reliability across the nation. To address high load demands, the enterprise is in the process of procuring 38 high-capacity transformers (ranging from 50 to 250 MVA).
Key Strategic Updates:
Procurement Status: The first phase involving 9 transformers is already finalized and currently in production.
GIS Infrastructure Maintenance: EEP is launching a specialized training program to empower local engineers to maintain 8 Gas Insulated Substations (GIS) in Addis Ababa independently.
Critical Services: These substations are vital for the city’s infrastructure, with four dedicated to the Addis Ababa Light Rail Transit and the rest providing power to residential areas.
Self-Reliance: By focusing on high-voltage GIS and transformer maintenance training, EEP is bridging skill gaps to ensure these modern facilities—designed for longevity and efficiency—operate at peak performance without relying on external support.
This initiative underscores our commitment to providing sustainable and reliable energy to drive Ethiopia’s economic growth.
