Jigjiga Substation Delivering Reliable Power to Residents and Industries

The Jigjiga Substation of Ethiopian Electric Power is now providing a stable and reliable electricity supply to local residents and industries, according to the substation’s manager.

Manager Mr. Demlew Teshome stated that the substation, which has a total capacity of 60 megawatts, currently delivers 30 megawatts of power to Jigjiga city and surrounding areas through eight transmission lines.

He noted that the substation supplies consistent electricity at 33 kilovolts to Fafen, Togo Chale, Kabribeyah, Chinaksen, and other nearby towns.

Because the facility is using only half of its available capacity, Mr. Demlew encouraged investors in the region to take advantage of the ample power supply.

He added that the substation is equipped with one 25-MVA transformer and two 31.5-MVA transformers.

The Jigjiga Substation receives power at 132 kilovolts from the Harar No. 3 Substation and transmits electricity onward at the same voltage to the Degehabur Substation.

The facility has been fully operational since 2005.
