Ethiopian Electric Power (EEP) has registered a capital of 709 billion Birr

According to Mr. Demere Asefa, Executive Officer of Finance, out of the total assets of 709 billion Birr, 586 billion Birr is paid-up capital.

He also noted that EEP’s debt has been reduced from 55 percent to 20 percent as a result of economic reforms implemented by the government and EEP.

He added that 28 percent of the total resources have been invested in power plants.

Moreover, 25.5 percent of the total resources are allocated to substations, high voltage transmission lines, and switchyards, amounting to a total of 150.5 billion Birr.

The remaining 46.5 percent includes vehicles, buildings, and other fixed assets.

Mr. Demere further stated that a regulatory amendment should be undertaken, as the paid-up capital of EEP was 34.768 billion Birr at its establishment in 2013.

Ethiopian Electric Power operates more than 17 power plants, 20,000 kilometers of high voltage transmission lines, 144 substations, numerous buildings, and over 900 vehicles.
