The Corporate Governance and Compliance Sector of Ethiopian Electric Power (EEP) has emphasized that management at all levels must take responsibility for strengthening the company’s image by upholding transparency and accountability.
According to the Sector’s Executive Officer, Mr. Duguma Neda, the Corporate Governance and Compliance Sector was established in 2025 to coordinate governance-related functions and enhance the institution’s public image through improved transparency and accountability across the organization.
Mr. Duguma stated that the sector is focusing on identifying and addressing gaps related to transparency and accountability in order to make ongoing reform efforts effective and to strengthen corporate governance practices within the company.
He noted that EEP is working closely with relevant stakeholders to reduce the volume of court cases by reviewing weaknesses in litigation processes, strengthening dispute resolution capacity, and safeguarding the institution’s legal and financial interests.
The Executive Officer also highlighted ongoing efforts in ethical and character development, including awareness-raising training programs and the establishment of platforms for open discussion. In parallel, corrective actions are being taken through the review of procedures, directives, and legal frameworks that expose the institution to corruption and malpractice.
Mr. Duguma further explained that measures are being implemented to ensure that all contracts comply with legal requirements and are prepared and executed in a manner that protects the institution from financial and operational risks. He added that poor contract management has contributed to project delays and increased costs, prompting closer collaboration with relevant departments to address these challenges.
Acknowledging existing gaps in corporate image-building, Mr. Duguma stressed that management at every level must recognize the strategic role of media and communication. He said leaders are expected to make effective use of communication platforms by transparently sharing ongoing activities, achievements, and challenges.
He also disclosed that a communication policy and several supporting draft directives aimed at strengthening image-building efforts have been prepared and submitted to company management, expressing confidence that they will be approved and implemented in the near future.
Concluding his remarks, Mr. Duguma underscored that building the company’s image through transparency and accountability requires sustained commitment from leadership at all levels, urging every manager to fully discharge their responsibilities in this regard.
