EEP Must Develop a 10-Year Strategic Energy Plan, Urges EIH CEO

The Chief Executive Officer of Ethiopian Investment Holdings (EIH) has called upon Ethiopian Electric Power (EEP) to formulate a comprehensive strategy tailored to meet Ethiopia’s projected energy demands over the next decade.

During the conclusion of EEP’s half-year performance review, EIH CEO Dr. Brook Taye emphasized that EEP’s strategic roadmap must be robust enough to fulfill the nation’s growing energy requirements.

He further directed that this strategy be subject to transparent discussions with key stakeholders to ensure alignment and collective success.

Legacy of the GERD Reflecting on the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD), Dr. Brook noted that the project is the result of immense national sacrifice. He described it as a prime example of what can be achieved when the government and the public work in unison toward a common goal.

Critically, he directed that the project management expertise and processes developed during the construction of the GERD be formally documented. This “knowledge transfer” will serve as a vital blueprint for the efficiency and success of future infrastructure projects.

Financial Sustainability and Future Projects In addition to the operational milestones of the GERD, the CEO expressed confidence in EEP’s recent financial performance, noting that its improved fiscal health will lead the institution toward a more sustainable path.

Regarding upcoming major energy assets, Dr. Brook mentioned that various financing options are currently being explored to facilitate the completion of the Koysha Hydroelectric Power Project.
