Dessie substation construction is progressing as scheduled


The project manager of Ethiopian Electric Power Dessie substation, Mr. Daniel Teklemariam, stated that the construction of the 230 kV substation is going on as scheduled.
According to him, the substation is currently under construction in Dessie. The substation will be equipped with two transformers, each with a capacity of 63 megavolt-amperes, along with six 33 kV and ten 15 kV outgoing lines.

He added that the project, with a total budget of 1.6 billion birr, is being constructed by Ethiopian Electric Power’s own force department.
Mr. Daniel stated that the construction is expected to be completed by the end of July 2027 G.C. He noted that upon completion, the substation will ensure a reliable power supply to Dessie city and its surrounding areas.

According to him, the transformers have been installed, and excavation for the control room building is underway.
The manager explained that land excavation has already started and the construction process is being expedited with additional machinery arranged for deployment at the site.

Also, he noted that, due to the project’s economic and social importance for the city and its surrounding areas, government officials and the local community are actively monitoring and supporting its progress.

He clarified that the project has created both permanent and temporary jobs for 94 individuals. As much as work continues, more community members will have the opportunity to participate in the project, he added.
