The maintenance work on three units has been entirely completed

The Tekeze hydro power plant has announced that it has successfully maintained three out of its four units, utilizing the plant’s own capacity.

Mr. Seyoum Hailu, Head of the maintenance department at the power plant, revealed that the facility had been disconnected from the national load dispatch center since 2022 due to security concerns in the region.

With the return of stability, the maintenance department successfully conducted the maintenance of three units in-house, while the fourth unit is presently undergoing maintenance.

One of the three units that have undergone maintenance is currently undergoing vibration testing, while the power plant is generating electricity using the remaining two units.

Mr. Seyoum emphasized that various maintenance activities, including corrective and preventive measures, as well as regular inspections, are being diligently carried out to ensure optimal operational capacity.

Mr. Mikaele Gebretsadk, a maintenance expert at the power plant, highlighted the benefits of conducting maintenance tasks internally, citing savings in both time and costs.

He also stressed the opportunity for workers to exchange experiences and enhance their skills through this process.

Furthermore, Mr. Mikaele called for the resolution of issues concerning spare parts procurement.

The Tekeze Hydropower dam, whose construction began in 1994 E.C and commenced operations in October 2002 E.C, boasts a power generation capacity of 300 MW.
