Mekelle –Dallol high voltage transmission line and substation construction is being under taken steadily.
The construction of Mekelle-Dallol 230/132 kV high voltage transmission line and substation works underway in momentum aims to complete as per its schedule.
The project embraces stretching works on 130km Mekelle-Dallol transmission line and one new GIS (Gas insulated system) substation which is being constructed at Dallol wereda.
Mr.Dawit Yibgeta, Site Civil Engineer of the Project, said that, excavation of 215 tower foundations and erection of 87 towers has carried out from the expected 316 towers to be erected.
At the same time, the work on 230/132 kV high voltage new substation has been executed swiftly at Dallol wereda, Afar National Regional State, some 170 km from Mekelle including expansion works on the existing 230kV Mekelle substation.
The project which was officially launched in November 2019, scheduled to be completed within 18 months having a current average performance of 48 percent.
The work on the project has been carried out by Indian based companies namely Calpatura and Larson & Turbo.
The 4.1 billon birr Project, is financed by the African Development Bank and the government of Ethiopia having 85 and 15 percent share respectively.
Up on completion, the project could play a commendable role towards providing adequate and reliable electricity particularly for potash production in the Dalol area as well as electrifying the surrounding rural communities.
