Maintenance is underway to reduce the institution expenditure
Tis Abay I and II hydroelectric power plant has been able to reduce the maintenance cost of water pumps.
According to Dejene Guta, Manager of Tis Abay I and II hydroelectric power plant, a tender of 95,000 birr was offered for the repair of one water pump.
However, the maintenance workers of Tis Abay II hydroelectric power plant have been able to repair four of them with the same amount of money as one.
He recalled that the plant had a problem with water pumps and spare parts were not readily available because of this the plant produces energy during the summer.
In addition to responding to the pump demand of the plant, four additional pumps have been repaired and serviced to Tana Beles power plant, he said.
According to Dejene, a pump with a capacity of 250,000 liters per second has been repaired with the cost of 150,000 birr.
The maintenance will not only solve the pump problem, but also help prevent the problem from recurring, he added.
According to the manager, In addition to the maintenance of water pumps at the power plant, the turbine components have also been repaired.
The 73 MW capacity of Tis Abay II hydroelectric power plant was launched in 2001.
