Ethiopia will impound the Nile water next summer following legal and technical steps
Prime Minister Dr. Abiy Ahmed has said that Ethiopia will impound Nile water in the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam next summer following legal and technical steps.
The Ethiopian government has not restricted the Nile and “We will store the water this summer as it rains heavily during the rainy months,” he said.
In a statement to the House of Peoples’ Representatives, the Prime Minister said the failure to impound the water in GERD will cost the country one billion dollars.
He Express that Ethiopia’s interest is not to harm Egypt and Sudan, but to use the river to get out of the darkness.
Regarding to the water supply, he said Ethiopia is still ready to sign the agreement.
He reaffirmed that it will accomplish the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam as promised to the people of Ethiopia.
