The Ethiopian Electric Power Transmission Lines and Substations Operations sector announced that a fault with the 33 KV transformer at the Mekele substation caused the power outage.
Mr. Robel G/Egziabher, the director of the sector’s North Region Operations and Maintenance Department, stated that the power outage occurred in Mekele Industrial Park and a 70 square meter area.
Additionally, the power was cut off in Hegere Salam and Hintalo Wajerat woredas, along with the surrounding kebeles and the Etica textile factory, the director said.
However, he explained that the areas getting power from the 15 KV transformer at the substation were not affected by the outage.
He mentioned that they have begun efforts to identify the issue with the transformer.
If the issue is related to the transformer winding, it may be necessary to replace it with another transformer.
